Abstract

Objective: To explore the factorial structure of parenting Bense of competence scale (PSOC) in a sample of Chinese parents whose child is 6-12 years old. Methods: The parenting sense of competence scale was translated into Chinese, and a total of 887 parents of pupils were recruited for this study; half of the sample was used for exploratory factor analysis and the other half for confirmatory factor analysis. Results: Exploratory factor analysis showed that two factors: satisfaction and efficacy, accounted for 37.42%. Of the two factor model, the results of confirmatory factor analyses indicated that the indicators satisfied the psychometrics standard. There was no difference between parents. Interestingly, the efficacy of the intellecturals and the political leaders is lower than farmers', workers' and merchants'; the satisfaction of parents whose education level is lower than high school is more than the parents whose education level is higher than high school. Conclusion: This study indicates that the two-factor model of PSOC is adaptable to Chinese 6-12 years old children' parents.
