Abstract
To explore the serum Galectin - 3 expression in patients with rheumatoid arthritis ( RS ) and investigate its clinical significance. Methods The serum Galectin -3 expression in 69 RA patients ( RA group ), 40 osteoar-thritis patients ( OA group ), and 24 healthy controls ( control group ) were determined using ELISA. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 13. 0 software. Results The serum Galectin -3 expression was significantly higher in RA group than in control group and OA group ( bothP <0. 01 ), whereas no such difference was found between OA group and control group. In the RA group, patients with high — or intermediate — grade disease activities also had significantly lower serum Galectin — 3 expression ( P < 0. 05 ), whereas no such difference was found between the high - grade and intermediate - grade subgroups ( P > 0. 05 ). The serum Galetin - 3 level in RA group was positively correlated with the Disease Activity Score ( DAS28 ), IgA, erythrocyte sedimentation rate ( ESR ). Nevertheless, the serum Galetin -3 level in RA patients showed no correlation with disease course, age, C -reactive protein ( CRP ), rheumatoid factor ( RF ), anti - cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody ( CCP ), immunoglobulin IgG, /IgM, anti - keratin antibody ( AKA ) and antiperinuclear factor antibody ( APF), complement 3 ( C3 ), complement 4 ( C4 ), and other indicators. Conclusion Serum Galectin - 3 increases grouping RA patients and is correlated with disease activity.关键词
