Correlation of Serum High-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein and Homocysteine Levels with Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis in Acute Cerebral Infarction Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

摘要

Abstract

To explore the correlation of serum high - sensitivity C - reactive protein ( Hs - CRP ) and homocysteine ( Hey ) with carotid stenosis in patients with acute cerebral infarction with type 2 diabetes mellitus ( DMCI ). Methods Totally 102 acute cerebral infarction patients, including 44 DMCI patients ( DMCI group ) and 58 patients with non - diabetic acute cerebral infarction ( CI group ) were enrolled in this study. The serum hs - CRP and Hey were measured. Carotid artery examination including the inter - media thickness and carotid atheromatous plaque were performed for all patients by the Doppler ultrasonography. Results The serum hs - CRP and homocysteine levels in DMCI group and in CI group showed significant difference ( P < 0. 05 ). The incidence of carotid artery atherosclerosis was 86. 4% in DMCI group and 69. 0% in CI group ( P < 0. 05 ). Inside the DMCI group, the serum levels of hs - CRP and Hey also showed significant differences between patients with unstable/stable plaque and those without plaque; in addition, the serum hs - CRP level in patients with unstable plaque also differed from those with stable plaque ( P < 0. 05 ). Conclusion DMCI patients are more susceptible to carotid artery atheroscle-ros, which may be related with the increased serum hs - CRP and Hey levels.
