Abstract

Microtube Li4Ti5O12 anode materials for lithium-ion batteries were synthesized using bamboo fiber as template, and Ti(OC4H9)4 and Li(Ac)·2H2O as raw materials. The structure, morphology and electrochemical properties of Li4Ti5O12 were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic morphology (SEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method (BET), galvanostatic charge-discharge tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The results show that the Li4Ti5O12 microtubes are composed of spinel Li4Ti5O12 nano-particles, which has a high special surface area resulting in improved electrochemistry performances. The electrochemical test results show that the spinel Li4Ti5O12 microtube delivers the initial discharge capacity of 178 mAh/g at 0.1 C current rate in the voltage rang of 0.5-3.0 V, and its discharge capacity retains 162 mAh/g after 100 cycles. The spinel Li4Ti5O12 material has an excellent rate performance.
