摘要

Abstract

The composite specimens were prepared using fused corundum, micro-powder A12O3, silicon powder and bauxite-based p-SiA10N as starting materials and resin as binder. The phase composition, microstruc-ture, physical properties, high temperature modulus of rupture (HMOR) and thermal shock resistance (TSR) of the specimens after firing at 1500 °C have been studied. The results show; (1) The Al203-SiC-SiA10N composite can be prepared by corundum and Si firing at high temperature in carbon embedded condition and fl-SiAlON addition can promote Si reaction. This composite is sintered well at 1500 °C. (2) HMOR and TSR increase with the increase of Si content, thermo-mechanical properties is further increased with appropriate |3-SiAlON addition. (3) The improved thermo-mechanical properties may be attributed to Si reacting with C, CO and N2 to form SiC whisker or fiber and flocculent-like O' -SiAlON which would fill in the interstices of corundum skeleton structure, forming interlocking network structure, thus creating strengthening and toughening effect.
