Abstract

A microbial fuel cell (MFC) was constructed in the oxidation ditch. The determination results show that the voltage produced by the MFC is 0.24-0.39 V with the mean value of 0.29 V. According to calculation results, the power produced by the MFC is 0.05-0.15 mW with the mean value of 0.08 mW. The removal rates of COD and TN in the oxidation ditch with MFC are 15%-95% and 5%-38% respectively, while those in the oxidation ditch without MFC are 77%-89% and 5%-23% respectively. Additionally, the construction of MFC in the oxidation ditch can reduce the increase of sludge in the internal and external ditch by 15%.
