Abstract

The effect of thermal pretreatment on the dissolution and anaerobic biodegradation of dewatered sludge was investigated. Results showed that after pretreatment at 100℃ , 130℃ and 170℃ , COD dissolving rati- os were improved from 5.23% of untreated sludge to 20.08% , 22.50% and 27.20% , respectively. Thermal pretreatment showed similar effect on the dissolution of dewatered sludge and traditional low solid sludge (total solid 〈 5% ). Moreover, pretreatments at 130℃ for 2 h and 170℃ for 30 rain significantly enhanced the per- formance of anaerobic digestion. The methane yields were 24.64% and 38.61% higher than that of untreated sludge, respectively, while the methane contents of biogas were slightly decreased compared with that of untreat- ed dewatered sludge.
