Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of family health education in the prevention of long - term complications caused by peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC). Methods A total of 100 PICC patients were included in the study. Besides conventional dressing, family health education including explanation, questions and answers, demonstration, releasing pamphlet and interaction between nursing staff and patients was conducted to prevent complications such as skin hyper-sensitiveness around the puncture spot, catheter blockage, phlebitis and catheter dislodgement or displacement. Results By clinical observation, gently skin hypersensitiveness emerged in 8 cases (8 %), catheter blockage in 5 cases (5 %), and phlebitis in 5 cases (5 %). No patients had deep venous thrombosis and catheter dislodgement or displacement. The catheter tolerance was good with no catheter dislodgement caused by complications. The expected indwelling duration was met. Conclusion Family health education is important to reduce the long - term complications caused by PICC.关键词
