摘要

Abstract

Maize is an ideal model system for molecular studies in monocots, especially for the investigations of the grass flower development. The glumes are specific and unique floral organs for grasses, its size and number vary greatly during evolution. In terms of maize, the development of glume is a delicately-manipulating process concerning with sex determination. G1 encodes a plant-specific DUF640 domain-like gene family, whose functions are largely unknown. It regulates the development of empty glume and floral meristem in rice. In this paper, the phylogenetic relationship, promotor region and subcellular location of ZmEGl , an DUF640 protein, was analyzed by bioinformatic tools. Furthermore, reverse transcription-PCR was performed to investigate the expression pattern of ZmGl in maize tassel and ear. These results suggest that ZmGl may participate in the developmental process of maize ear.
