Abstract

For studying the change of distribution of total suspended matters and Chlorophyll in Yangtze River Estuary, the samples and data had been obtained from the comprehensive research cruise in Oct 2010, seven years since the first-stage storage of the Three Gorges Dam. The samples acquired by pressure-sensitive water sampler had been filtered using pumped filter, and the concentration of total suspended matters had been worked out. The data of chlorophyll, turbidity, salinity and temperature had been acquired by an in situ CTD system. Distribution patterns of total suspended matters and Chlorophyll, and their influencing factors were systematically studied. The results show that: (1) there is a good linear relationship between turbidity and total suspended matters concentration without relation to different salinity. (2) the high concentration of total suspended matters locates in the area west of 123°E, and most Chlorophyll flocks together in the area between 123°E and 124°E. The water masses and discharges of the Yangtze River are main factors to control their distributions. In contrasting to pre-Three Gorges Dam Project, the extent of total suspended matter has shrunk to coastal by a half of longitude, and the value of Chlorophyll has decreased.
