摘要

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of calcitonin on biomechanical characteristics of osteoporotic bone with implant. Methods The osteoporosis model was induced by ovariectomy in female New Zealand rabbits. Seventy-two rabbits were randomly divided into three groups with 24 in each group: in normal control group (NC) animals received intramuscular injection of normal saline 0.4 ml/d×4 d, in osteoporosis group (OP) a pure titanium screw was implanted in the proximal tibial metaphysis in castrated animals and received intramuscular injection of normal saline, in calcitonin group (CT) the animals received both titanium implant and intramuscular injection of calcitonin 4 u/d ×4 d. Eight specimens were harvested from each group at week 2, 4 and 8; biomechanical characteristics including bend load (BL) and maxillary tensile length (TL max) were evaluated. Results The BL in NC group was highest, followed by CT group, and that in OP group was lowest at all time points. The TL max of NC group was shortest, followed by CT group, and that of OP group was longest at all time poits. There were significant differences among these groups (P < 0.01). Conclusion Calcitonin can improve the biomechanical characteristics of osteoporotic bone with implant.
