Abstract

A dividing wall distillation column was used to separate the mixture of w-hexane, n-heptane and octane. The influences of liquid distribution ratio, feed location and side draw location on the separation were studied. The separation result of the dividing wall column was compared to distillation column with side draw. The results showed that under the conditions of distribution ratio of the liquids 1, feed location Ⅱ , the side draw location Ⅱ, the mass fractions of n-hexane in the top stream, n-heptane in the side-draw stream and octane in the bottom stream reached 99.72%, 95.48% and 96.80%, respectively. The dividing wall distillation column could get higher purity than the distillation column with side draw. The dividing wall distillation column was simulated by means of Aspen Plus software, and a basic agreement between the predicted and the experimental data was found.
