Metaphor Understanding in Relevance Theory

Abstract
Abstract： The Relevance theory holds the idea that metaphor language is a common daily communication and expression. Understanding metaphor involves associating with appropriate context to find the best optimal relevance. The main points of optimal relevance principle in the Relevance theory and its cognitive mechanism and theoretical development background are briefly reviewed. Three main point in understanding metaphor working in the frame of the Relevance theory are pointed out as proposal： metaphor is only ＇casual conversation＂; understanding metaphor involves context interaction; and it is influenced by cognitive subiect.关键词
