Abstract

A series of waterborne polyurethane is synthesized by using polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different molecular weight as its soft segments and IPDI-BDO-DMPA as its hard segments. The crystallization of the soft segments and the shape memory effect are analyzed through infrared spectrum, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and shape memory effect testing. The results show that the crystallization of the soft segments is related to the molecular weight of the soft segments and the hard segment content. The polyurethane has crystallinity when the soft segment molecular weight is greater than 2 000 and the melting temperature and enthalpy of samples are increases with the PEG molecular weight increasing. If the molecular weight of the soft segments is constant, the melting temperature and enthalpy decrease with the hard segment content increasing. The shape memory effect of polyurethane samples reach optimal value when the molecular weight of the soft segment is 4 000 and the hard segment content is 30%.
