Abstract
＂The doctrine of the mean＂ , as one of core categories of Confucianism,is the behavioral stand- ards of Confucian ethics and morality and thinking methods, and is also the core cultural concept of Chinese traditional Culture. Although the idea of ＂the Mean＂ was rooted in the social culture of Chinese ancient times, the introduction of ＂the Mean＂ as an important cultural concept should be owed to the Confucius. Then Zi Si and other students inherited and developed the idea of ＂the Mean＂, and formed the systematic theoretical work ＂The Doctrine of the Mean＂. After that, Confucians in Song Dynasty enriched and developed ＂the Mean＂ in the concepts of philosophical culture further. Starting with the discussion on the connotation of ＂the Mean＂ ,the paper makes a primary survey on the ideological connotation of ＂ the Mean＂ as the moral standards. As the moral ethics,＂ the Mean＂ originated from the human fate and the nature at birth, but in the real life cultivation and social practice,＂ the Mean＂ is closely related to the ＂Li＂. If the fate and the nature is the final origin of forming ＂the Mean＂ ,＂ Li＂ is the external norm of realizing ＂the Mean＂ really.关键词
