Abstract
Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of alpha lipoic acid( LA ) in type 2 diabetes mellitus ( DM ) with abdominal obesity( AO ) and erectile dysfunction( ED ). Methods All patients involved type 2 DM were divided into two groups: the AO group ( 30 type 2 DM patients with ED and AO ) and the non AO group ( 30 type 2 DM patients with ED but without AO ). The therapeutic methods were similar of fundamental treatment plus alpha lipoic acid in both groups, and the period of therapy was 3 weeks. The comparison of results was performed before and after treatment. Results Before the LA treatment, the indexes of AUC, ISI, SOD, GSH-Px, NO, score of IIEF-5 and endothelium dependent dilation were lower in AO group than those in the non AO group ( P <0. 05 ), while the indexes of MDA and ET-1 were higher than those in the non AO group ( P < 0. 05 ), there were no significant difference in endothelium independent dilation between 2 groups ( P > 0. 05 ). After the LA treatment, the indexes of the AUC, ISI, SOD, GSH-Px, NO, score of IIEF-5 and endothelium dependent dilation increased significantly ( P < 0. 05 ), and the MDA, ET-1 decreased significantly ( P < 0. 05 ) in both two groups, which were more obvious in the AO group ( P < 0. 05 ). There was no significant difference in endothelium independent dilation before and after the LA treatment in both groups ( P > 0. 05 ). Conclusion It demonstrated that the LA could improve the beta cell function and the status of oxidative stress and endothelium function in type 2 DM patients with AO and ED, and was of good therapeutic effect for ED.关键词
