摘要

Abstract

In this manuscript, two kinds of silica nanoparticles whose average diameter were about 250nm and 650nm were modified by ball milling method and chemical method without/with the modifying agents of ethylene glycol (EG) and the silane coupling agent of 3-Triethoxysilylpropylamine (KH-550). The results showed that the different kinds of surface treatments had a great effect on increasing the dispersibility of silica nanoparticles and the maximum weight fraction of silica nanoparticles in STFs, especially treated by the chemical method with EG. The initial viscosity of shear thickening fluid comprised of modified silica nanoparticles (d =650nm) was lower and this kind of shear thickening fluid is much more suitable for the preparation of flexible protective materials.
