Abstract

Cr-CNT composite coating was prepared on steel 45 substrates by brush plating. X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to investigate the grain size and morphology of the coating. Energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) was used to analyze the distribution of CNTs in the coating. In addition, hardness, corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the coating were also tested with micro-hardness tester, electrochemical workstation and wear tester. Results indicated that the composite coatings present compact structure without obvious defects. CNTs disperse in the coating and concentrated on the boundaries of the cell structure. The addition of CNTs led smaller grain size. Strengthened by fine crystal intensification and dispersion intensification of CNTs, micro-hardness of the composite coatings increased by 23.8% and corrosion rate decreased by 49.2%, wear resistance was greatly improved.
