A Cognitive Study of Polysemic Structure A and B
摘要
Abstract
Structure A and B linked by the coordinator and can indicate temporal, cause-result, conditionality, concession and purpose relations. By use of the usage-based data, this paper aims to explore the mechanism underlying the polysemic structure A and B under the framework of Goldberg＇s construction grammar. It is found that A and B structure is an independent construction, the temporal relations being the central meaning and the other relations like cause-result, conditionality, concession and purpose being metaphorically mapped from the temporal meaning. The mapping is due to the process of the impartment and inherence of the connotation and denotation of these relations concerned关键词
