Abstract

Mg-doped spinel Li4Ti5O12 was synthesized by two-step solid-state reaction in an air atmosphere using magnesium acetate as dopant source of Mg2+. The properties of the obtained material were characterized by SEM, XRD and electrochemical tests. The results indicate that Mg doping does not change the spinel structure of the material, the first discharge specific capacity of the doped sample decreases more slightly than the pristine sample at 0.2 C, while the doped one exhibits excellent electrochemical rate capability and cycling stability, the discharge specific capacity is 2.2 times higher than that of the pristine Li4Ti5O,2 at 10 C rate and there is no obvious capacity fade after 10 cycles. The impedance Rα reduces from 130 Ω for the undoped material to 20 Ω for the doped one, which shows the electronic conductivity of the material is improved greatly.
