Preparation of nano-TiO2 by homogeneous precipitation intensified with ultrasound

Abstract

In order to improve the dispersion of nano-TiO2 and to reduce the particle size, nano-TiO2 were synthesized by homogeneous precipitation intensified with ultrasound. Industrial grade TiOSO4 was used as raw material to synthesize nano-TiO2 by homogeneous precipitation. The effect of ultrasound on the fabrication of nano-TiO2 was studied by comparison tests. The characterization of nano-TiO2 was investigated by the BET surface area and porosity analysis, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The results show that the role of ultrasound can reduce the particle size significantly. Also it can increase the surface area, pore volume and pore size of nano-TiO2, and improve the dispersion properties and particle size distribution. Anatase nano-TiO2 can be obtained directly by the homogeneous precipitation process without specific calcine steps. And ultrasonic treatment does not change anatase crystal of the nano-TiO2 samples.
