Study on Discharge of Grading Rings for Insulators in the 500 kV Gangcheng Substation

Abstract
In order to improve the accuracy of finite element numerical simulation used in the study of the electric field distribution of external insulation equipment, the electric field of the grading ring and the insulator string was simulated and analyzed, and the optimized pipe diameter and install locations of the grading ring was obtained by setting different parameters. The three dimensional (3D) model of 500 kV substation with grading ring and insulators strings were established by using ANSOFT software. The effect of pipe diameter and install locations of grading ring on the electric field distribution of insulator strings was studied and the continuous discharge between grading ring and insulator was explained by the simulation analysis. The influence on the maximum electric field strength by the pipe diameter and install locations of the grading ring was studied in the simulation. On this basis, the optimized pipe diameter and install locations of the grading ring that satisfied practical engineering application was obtained. Finally, the feasibility of the simulation results used in eliminating discharge on the grading ring was demonstrated by the practical operation.关键词
