Abstract

Under a certain towing velocity,towing points,and draught,towing tests with different towline lengths were conducted on a 1: 20 scaled bucket foundation platform model in different conditions of following sea and head sea.By a combination of tests on the acceleration,internal air pressure,bottom water pressure of the bucket foundation,and dragging force of the platform in the platform towing,the effects of towline length on the basic mechanical parameters in following and head seas were analyzed,and then the influence of the towb'ne length on the course stability was obtained.The results show that compared with towing in the following sea,towline length has more influence on the response amplitude of sway motion when towing in the head sea; towing under a certain length will decrease the impact of tension generated by motor incoordination between the bucket foundation platform and trailer,which will then help to alleviate the bias swing; however,when towing length is too long,the straight-line navigation capability is worse with an increase in surge,sway,and heave swing.Furthermore,towing manipulation is more difficult.The bucket foundation platform has the greatest stability and seakeeping capability when towing with a 48 m towline (3.2 times platform width) in following and head seas.
