Effect of rare earth elements on the mechanical properties of different metal-bonded diamond segments

Abstract
Adding rare earth elements into the metal bond of diamond tools can improve the adhesive strength of the matrix by refining grain size and purifying the interface between the diamond and the base. The mechanical properties of different diamond segments with and without the addition of rare earth elements were compared and analyzed. The effect mechanism of rare earth elements on the mechanical properties of the diamond segments, which included the density and toughness of the matrix material, the bending strength of the segments and the bonding strength between the matrix and diamonds, was investigated. Experimental results showed that rare earth elements had obvious effects on the bending strength of different diamond segments. Adding rare earth elements in the copper-based bond can improve the combination of diamond and matrix and improve the holding force to diamond grit. The results can facilitate and promote the applications of the rare earth elements in manufacture of diamond tools.关键词
