Abstract
The Olympic Dam copper-Uranium Mine has the largest uranium deposit, fourth largest gold deposit and fifth largest copper deposit in the world. To the end of June 2011 Olympic Dam has the proved and probable ore reserves of 553 Mt containing 1.84% Cu ,0.57kg/t U3O8, 0.69g/t Au and 6.41g/t Ag, as well as measured and indicated ore resources of 5979 Mt containing 0.93% Cu,0.29kg/t U3O8, 0.34g/t Au and 1. 68g/t Ag. The ore-body worked using a long-hole sublevel open stoping. Stopes are backfilled with cemented aggregate. The average mining rate is 12Mt/a of sulphide ores. The concentrator uses a conventional SAG mill- selective flotation flowsheet to obtain copper concentrates containing uranium, gold and silver. The cathode copper was obtained from copper concentrates with acid leaching/solvent extraction/electrowinning, the uranium oxide (U3O8)with leaching/solvent extraction/precipitation/calcination. The current production measure of Olympic Dam mine was 12Mt/a of ore, 600kt/a of copper concentrate, 235kt/a of refined copper, 4500t/a of uranium oxide, of 100koz/a gold and 800koz/a of silver. In 2007 BHP Billiton announced Olympic Dab mine expansion plan. The final SEIS were released to public in May 2011. Approvals from the South Australian Government and the Commonwealth was received in October 2011. Aser completion of the expansion project the Olympic Dam would become the largest copper mine in the world. The eventual target output of the mine will be 750kt/a of copper, 19kt/a uranium oxide, 800koz/a of gold and 2900koz/a of silver.关键词
