Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the clinical value of cone beam CT and three-dimensional reconstruction for preoperative assessment in impacted mandibular third molar (IMTM) patients. Methods: A retrospective review of 49 patients with 50 IMTM in which their roots overlapped with ID nerve canal or with neighboring tooth identified by orthopantomography were selected in the study. An evaluation comparing CBCT and orthopantomography were performed. After a thorough CBCT assessment and meticulous planning, 50 teeth of 49 patients were extracted by non-invasive techniques using high speed turbine. Results: Cone beam volumetric imaging gave a more accurate assessment of the risk and provided 3-D information for the planning of the actual surgery. Assure stress distribution, to remove the bone accordingly in management, and care to protect ID nerve and neighboring tooth. Conclusions: CBCT images were superior and make it the way forward for third molar surgery.关键词
