Abstract

In order to optimize the tree species and improve the forest structure of Taizi Mountain Forest Park, Experiment of planting density(including 3 m×3m and 2 m ×3 m) with truncated stem was performed on cultivation Paulownia elongate S. Y. Hu. And then stumping , 40% thinning and 1/2 line - thinning respectively in the first year, the third year and the fifth year, were treated. The results of growth of six years old stand indicated that P. elongata was introduced preliminary successfully. It showed fast-growing characteristics with height of 2.09 m, DDHB of 3. 28 cm and volume of 0.024 Om3, which far surpassed the second rotation Chinese fir plantation locally. The differences of DDHB and volume growth were evidently with different initial density treatments. Low density (3 m × 3 m or higher) in the plantation might promote the growth of P. elongata. The results also provided a basis for high -yield cultivation techniques of P. elongate in the northern margin area of jianghan Plain.
