Abstract

Based on the common hydrogeological conditions in the riverside water source area of the piedmont alluvial-pluvial fan, a numerical groundwater flow model was established using Visual MODFLOW to simulate the groundwater flow conditions in the water-rich area. According to the comprehensive analysis of the hydrogeological conditions in the Ge'ermu alluvial-pluvial fan, the three-dimensional boundary conditions were determined and the conceptual model and numerical model were constructed for this area. In terms of the identification and verification of the relationship between the simulated and measured groundwater gradient field and velocity field, the simulated groundwater flow conditions were similar to the measured ones for the study area. The numerical model was used to simulate the exploitation schemes and predict the water balance under three conditions, the wet period,normal flow period,and low flow period, in 10 years. The model results showed that the required groundwater exploitation amount (new 132000 m3/d) is reasonable for the proposed water source area.
