Influence of low-heat Portland cement on properties of dam concrete

Abstract
This paper presents a systematic study on the influence of low-heat Portland cement concrete (LHC) and moderate-heat Portland cement (MHC) on the properties of dam concrete, such as mechanical strength, ultimate tension, drying shrinkage, anti-cracking, adiabatic temperature rise, frost resistance and impermeability. Relative to MHC, LHC shows lower 7d strength, slightly higher 90d and 180d strengths, and similar 28d strength, and its ultimate tensions of 28d, 90d and 180d are increased. The study also reveals that LHC has better early anti-cracking property and its 28d adiabatic temperature rise is decreased by 5.3℃ , while its drying shrinkage, frost resistance and impermeability are close to MHC. Thus, LHC improves the properties of dam concrete, favorable to dam safety.关键词
