Abstract

A calculation program was developed with Visual Basic 2005 based on a comprehensive consideration of many factors, such as lateral pressure, designed internal forces, anti-pulling force, and overall stability of soil nailing. In this study, the stabilities of unsupported and supported slopes were evaluated separately for the calculation of the overall internal stability. As the distribution of the anti-pulling force of soil nailing is independent of the soil slices, the most dangerous circular sliding surface changes at each stage if interaction between soil and nailing is considered. The program enables a dynamic search of the most dangerous circular sliding surface of a supported slope. The engineering applications indicate that the program contains all the design and calculation contents for the soil nail bracing, and can also present visual graphics simultaneously during the calculation. The program is visual and can be easily implemented. It is efficient when it comes to foundation pit engineering and can provide useful references for civil engineers.
