Clinical effect of clarithromycin combined with tiotropium bromide on inflammatory factor and lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of clarithromycin combined with tiotropium bromide on inflammatory factor and lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods:56 patients with COPD admitted to our hospital from Jan. 2009 to Jun. 2011 were selected and divided into observation group and control group, with 28 cases in each group. The control group was treated with tiotropium bromide and the observation group was received clarithromycin combined with tiotropium bromide. After 4 weeks of treatment, the serum levels of inflammatory factor, including C-reactive protein (CRP) , white interleukin -6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) , and functional parameter such as FEV1 and FEV1/FVC% were observed and compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the levels of CRP, IL-6 and TNF-αwere significantly improved than those before treatment in two groups; the levels of above inflammatory factors of the observation group were better than those of the control group; the difference was statistically significant(P<0. 05). After treatment, the lung function indicators of two groups were higher than those before treatment; the lung function indicators of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, the difference was statistically signifi-cant(P<0. 05). Conclusion: Combination therapy of clarithromycin and tiotropium bromide in effective in treating COPD, which is worthy of clinical application.关键词
