Abstract
Objective To evaluate video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection for treatment of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) in elderly patients. Methods The data on two hundred and twenty five patients with NSCLC undergoing VATS lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection were retrospectively reviewed, among whom 38 were elderly patients (≥70 y). The surgical trauma, recovery, postoperative complications and prognosis of elderly patients were compared with those of 57 randomly selected patients aged<70 y. Results There was no significant difference in surgical trauma and postoperative recovery. The incidence of cardiovascular complications in the elderly group was higher(23. 7% vs 1. 8% ,P=0.001). No significant difference was found in other complications and survival rate. Conclusion VATS lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection was a safe and feasible surgical modality for the treatment of elderly patients with NSCLC.关键词
