摘要
Abstract
As man-digging waterway, channel construction, important component of water conservation project, has a long history in China. The meaning of the Chinese idiom "where water flows into a man-dig- ging trough, a channel is finished" had controversial views in near millennium in China. It had been influen- cing the correct understanding of meaning of "channel" by Chinese people. The accurate meaning of the idiom should be "introducing external water to the man-digging trough, indicating things go smooth after the condi- tions are prepared". The explanation in dictionaries in both Chinese and foreign languages needs to be identi- fied and corrected.关键词
