Abstract
Objective To develop a field triple water purifying device to turn the raw water into drinking water. Methods The device, made of polyethylene plastics and stainless steel, used active carbon, quartz sand, low-pressure high-performance micro filtration membrane and polyimide resin as the purifying material, and foot pump to provide filtration pressure. Such indexes, such as the turbidity, escherichia coli, total bacterial count and COD, were tested for the evaluation of the device. Results The water filtered by the device showed no abnormal stink, no visible materials and no colon bacilli, whose total bacterial count was less than 2 cfu/mL and turbidity was not more than 2 NTU. The experiment monitoring data showed that the removal rate of BOD5 and COD was high. Conclusion The indexes of water quality, bacteriology, turbidity of natural water treated by the device are in accord with the sanitary standard of drinking water for armed forces in wartime, so the water filtered by the device is suitable or safe for drinking.
