Study on the flame retardation and thermal degradation of wool treated with Mg(OH)2 sol

摘要

Abstract

Wool was treated by Mg(OH)2 sol. The flame retardance and thermal stability of unmodified and modified wool fibers were studied by limited oxygen index (LOI), char yield, thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods. The treated wool showed increases in LOI and char yield, increases in the decomposition temperature and the temperature of exothermic peak, which indicated that the flame retardance of treated wool was obviously improved compared with that of the untreated wool. The flame retardant mechanism was proposed according to the change of the thermal degradation behavior of wool.
