Nonlinear finite element analysis of jacket platform pile foundations under lateral loads

Abstract
The control loads of jacket platform pile foundations are the wind load, wave load, seismic load and other lateral loads. A fundamental study of the soil response of piles subjected to lateral loads is conducted using the nonlinear finite element analysis. A finite element model is established to simulate the response of a pile subjected to lateral loads effectively. The effects of pile properties, i.e. stiffness and diameter and soil properties, i.e., coefficient of horizontal earth pressure, dilation angle on the response of a pile subjected to lateral loads are investigated. In addition, the response of pile groups under lateral loads is also analyzed. Finally, the results of finite element analysis are compared with API recommendations and the model test results. The results of the study show that the nonlinear finite element analysis is accurate in analyzing soil response of piles subjected to lateral loads. The calculation results can provide reference for the pile foundation design of jacket platform.关键词
