Abstract

To investigate the effect of fluridone, an inhibitor of abscisic acid, on mice infected with Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) RH strain, the mice infected with T. gondii were treated with fluridone by intraperitoneal injection in order to observe the survival time and the weight reduction rate of them. The modality of T. gondii in the intraperitoneal cavity of mice was observed by microscope and electron microscope, and the irradiation of T. gondii was evaluated by tissue printing. The symptom of toxoplasmosis in the group treated with fluridone appeared later and milder than those in the control group. The survival duration was longer (P<0. 05) and the extension rate was 45%. The weight inhibitory rate of the treated mice was 6. 13% , whereas that was 7. 23% in the control mice. T. gondii in the control group were tachyzoites mainly, but intracellular parasite in mice was treated with fluridone. Destroy in organs happened later in the mice infected with T. gondii and the degree of infection was milder than in the control. These results suggested that fluridone could inhibit toxoplasmosis in mice, which were related to the function of blocking T. gondii egress and inducing development on vacuoles of intracellular by inhibiting abscisic acid.
