Effect of Ground Mulberry Leaf on Growth, Slaughter Performance and Meat Quality of Broilers

Abstract
This study was aimed to investigate the effect of ground mulberry leaf (GML) on growth performance, slaughter performance and meat quality of broilers. A total of 172 Guangxi Qingjiaoma roosters aged 35 days were chosen and allotted randomly into 4 treatment groups, and were fed with diets supplemented with 0 (control group), 5%, 8% and 11% GML, respectively. The results showed that adding 8% and 11% GML into the broiler diet significantly increased the feed/gain ratio compared with control (P < 0.05); Compared with control, adding 5% GML into the broiler diet reduced the abdominal fat rate (P < 0.05); Compared with control, GML supplementation reduced the intramuscular fat (IMF) content (P < 0.05). The 11% GML supplementation had higher unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) and ω-3 fatty acid, but lower saturated fatty acid (SFA) compared with the control group (P < 0.05). GML Supplementation tended to increase the contents of corrected IMP, although the effect was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Overall, adding GML into the diet of broilers reduced the abdominal fat rate and IMF, increased the contents of UFA and w-3 PUFA in muscle, but decreased the gain/feed ratio.关键词
