Analysis of Reasons and Countermeasure of Returning Drugs in Outpatient Pharmacy of Our Hospital

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the reasons of drug returning in outpatient pharmacy of our hospital and promote rational drug use. METHODS: By retrospective statistical method, the reasons for drug returning in 928 prescriptions of returning drugs in outpatient pharmacy of our hospital between Aug. 2010 and Jul. 2011 were analyzed statistically to put forward countermeasures. RESULTS & CONCLUSIONS: Patient factor was the main reasons for drug returning, resulting in 779 prescriptions (83.95%); 139 prescriptions of returning drugs were caused by doctors and nurses (14.97%); 6 prescriptions were caused by toll collector (financial staff) (0.65%); 4 prescriptions were caused by drugs (0.43%). It is suggested to reduce the occurrence of drug returning in outpatient pharmacy through perfecting drug returning system, enhancing the responsibilities of medical staff, strengthening pharmaceutical knowledge training of financial staff, playing the role of pharmacists in pharmaceutical care.
