Retrospective Analysis of Blood Concentration Monitoring for 3 Kinds of Antiepileptic Drugs in Our Hospital from 2003 to 2011

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To provide reference for rational use of antiepileptic drugs. METHODS: The results of blood concentration monitoring of 3 kinds of antiepileptic drugs (sodium valproate, carbamazepine, phenytoin sodium) in our hospital during 2003 — 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: The number of monitored cases for antiepileptic drugs had increased in our hospital year by year, with a total of 1 653 cases/times. Children patients accounted for 38.05% of all cases; more than half of drug concentrations monitored fell outside the normal concentration ranges, except for carbamazepine. CONCLUSION: Correct application of drug monitoring is of significance for the safety and effectiveness of epileptic treatment.
