Effect of TiB Whiskers on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties ofAl2O3/TC4 Alloy Joint

Abstract
Al2O3 and TC4 were brazed at a brazing temperature of 930 ℃ for 10min with CuTi, CuTi+B and CuTi+TiB2 fillers, re- spectively. The effect of TiB whiskers on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al2O3/TC4 alloy joints was investigated by using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and shear testing. The TiB whiskers were in-situ synthesized in Al2O3/TC4 alloy joint when B and TiB2 were added. The size of TiB whiskers synthesized from B powder is smaller than that synthe- sized from TiB2 powder. There exist five areas divided in Al2O3/TC4 alloy joints under the influence of TiB whiskers, which presents a ductile-rigid-ductile sandwich stucture. The structure could favor the decrease of the residual stresses of joints and the improvement of the mechanical properties of joints. The maximum shear strength of joint brazed with CuTi+TiB2 filler is 143 MPa, which is 239% of that brazed with CuTi filler.关键词
