Abstract

β-FeOOH/ceramic honeycomb(β-FeOOH/CH) was prepared by the following procedure: ceramic honeycomb was washcoated by Al2O3 via sol-gel method with boehmite as precursor,which was further modified by loading β-FeOOH(as active species).In comparison with ozonation process,the catalyst exhibited a higher catalytic activity for the degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D) in a semi-continuous laboratory reactor.At a reaction time of 20 min,2,4-D was completely destroyed and about 80% of the TOC was removed under the optimum conditions.Moreover,the effects of water flow speed and the initial concentration of organic pollutants et al.on the catalytic ozonation efficiency were also studied in detail.The results indicated that ozone could be efficiently decomposed over β-FeOOH/CH,leading to the highly efficient removal of organic pollutants such as atrazine and epichlorohydrin.Furthermore,β-FeOOH/CH had an excellent long-term stability and no obviously deactivation in 30 successive cycles.Therefore,β-FeOOH/CH has a promising application in drinking water treatment.
