Abstract
Based on general weather charts, satellite cloud images, radar echo images and NCEP reanalysis data, the diagnostic analysis is done for the sudden intensity of typhoon Meranti near offshore. The results show that the following factors could cause the sudden change, including the plenty of water vapor, warm underlying surface, the eastward moving of the high level trough, the weakening of the subtropical high, the increasing of vortic-iry advection near the typhoon center, the extending and strengthening of convergence on lower level and divergence on upper level, and favorable vertical wind shear.关键词
