The coupled vibration and acoustic field of a composite piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer

Abstract
This paper presents a new type of composite piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer,composed of a sandwich longitudinal piezoelectric transducer,an isotropic metal hollow cylinder with large radial dimension,and the front and back metal radiation masses.Based on the apparent elasticity method,by introducing equivalent elastic constants and equivalent mechanical coupling coefficient,the equivalent circuit of the hollow cylinder is obtained.The coupled vibration of the composite transducer is studied by using an approximate analytic method.The electro-mechanical equivalent circuit and the resonance frequency equation of the composite transducer are derived analytically.The vibrational displacement distribution and the radiation sound field of the composite transducer are simulated with finite element software ATILA.It can be seen that the coupled vibration can generate ultrasound in both axial and radial directions.Their resonance frequencies are compared with the analytical and numerical results,which show that the results from these two methods are in a good agreement with each other.It is expected that the composite ultrasonic transducer with coupled vibration can be used in more and more liquid processings.关键词
