Abstract

The key step of surface wave data processing is to extract its dispersion curve. As the frequency resolution and time resolution can not be taken into account by S-transform or the generalized S-transform for the whole time samples simultaneously, a new method by using the generalized S-transform with variable-factors to extract dispersion cure of transient Rayleigh wave is present. With the variable-factors, the width of gaussian window versus frequency varies as expected, rather than simply narrows as frequency increasing. This method can improve the frequency resolution and the time resolution of the local bands with purpose, especially the low and high frequency bands. The results of theoretical model testing and real data trials show that the method of surface wave dispersion curve extraction based on generalized S-transform with variable-factors is feasible and practical.
