Gatsby's Idealism and the Disillusion of American Dream
摘要
Abstract
America was prosperous in material items in 1920s but experiencing severe spiritual crisis at the same time.Traditional morals and values were challenged,even "American dream",as the symbol of American spirit,was questioned.Gatsby had been working hard for his "American dream" since he was a child,while he was finally killed by his dream.The tragic ending of The Great Gatsby convinces people of disillusion of "American dream".Gatsby's tragedy lies in the contrdiction between his idealism and the reality.This papers aims to demonstrate the disillusion of "American dream" by analysing Gatsby's idealist views of fortune,love and life.关键词
