Abstract

An electronic expansion valve (EEV), as a precise throttling valve for air-conditioning systems, is conducive to the increase of the energy efficiency ratio (EER) and the improvement of the thermal comfort of the air-conditioned room. Research on the claw-pole permanent-magnet (PM) stepping motor, which is the key part of the EEV, can improve the stability and reliability. The torque characteristics of the PM stepping motors for EEV were analyzed with the finite element method. When the rotor, the electric current and the air-gap between the rotor and the stator of the PM motor are constant, the holding torque and the static torque of PM motors were computed with the changes of the trapezoidal claw-pole parameters. It is better to keep the holding torque of the PM stepping motor bigger, provided that the demand of static torque is met, and the PM motor's claw-pole is optimally analyzed on this basis. The reasonable claw frame and its dimension can optimize the holding torque and the detent torque of PM motors. This study may have some reference value to the research and design of the electronic expansion valve stepper motor.
