Abstract

As a key component of power transmission and distribution systems, disconnecting switches have suffered serious damage in previous earthquakes. Generally, typical destruction feature of disconnecting switches during earthquakes appears as the breaking at bottom of insulator porcelain posts. In this paper, shake table test on a full-scale disconnecting switch was carried out to study the seismic behavior of the equipment. Displacements, strains and accelerations of the critical parts of the equipment were measured under broadband white-noise tests and input ground motions. The influence of the supporting frame and blades on seismic responses of insulators was estimated. The test results indicate that the responses of the two insulators in the disconnecting switch are correlated, and the amplification factors of the supporting frame are larger than that specified in the specifications.
