Analysis on Power Dissipation in Two-Level Voltage Source Converters Under Different Modulation Strategies

Abstract
In recent years voltage source converters (VSC) are applied in many power systems step by step, however relatively higher power dissipation is the main obstacle to its applications. Firstly, the constituents of power dissipation in voltage source converter (VSC) are analyzed and the method to calculate these constituents is proposed, on this basis mathematical analysis and derivation of power dissipation in VSC under typical pulse-width modulation (PWM) strategies such as sinusoidal PWM, space vector PWM and optimized PWM are performed, and the power dissipation in VSC is simulated by electromagnetic simulation software PSCAD/EMTDC. The impacts of PWM strategies and switching frequency are validated by results from mathematical analysis and simulation and from the viewpoint of optimized power loss the switching frequency of 1050Hz is recommended and it is pointed out that at present optimal PWM strategy is the modulation mode with lowest power loss.关键词
