Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of total thyroidectomy for bilateral nodular goiter.Methods 106 patients with nodular goiter who had been treated in our hospital during the period of June 2008 to February 2012 were randomly divided into study group and control group,53 for each group.The study group received total thyroidectomy and the control group received subtotal thyroidectomy.The efficacy of the two procedures were compared.Results The surgical duration was significantly longer and the recurrence rate was markedly lower in the study group than in the control group [( 131.54 ± 44.67 ) min vs.( 103.73 ± 19.78 ) min and 0％ vs.13.21％; P ＜ 0.05].Conclusions Total thyroidectomy for bilateral nodular goiter does not increase the length of hospital stay and incidence of complications; although total thyroidectomy has longer surgical duration,it can significantly reduce the recurrence rate.关键词
